GENERAL JEWELLERY CARE

Store Separately and Securely: When not in use, store your jewellery in the provided soft lined jewellery box. It's important to keep each piece separate to prevent scratching and damage.

Handle with Care: Although fine jewellery is crafted from metal, all precious metals are delicate. Even our most robust pieces should be worn with extra care. Be careful not to bang, scratch, scuff, bend, dent, or drop your jewellery.

Avoid Abrasive Surfaces and Substances: Steer clear of rough and abrasive surfaces like sand, cement, glass, and stone. Also, keep your jewellery away from other metal objects, including other pieces of jewellery, to prevent unnecessary damage.

Know When to Remove Your Jewellery: Refrain from wearing jewellery during cleaning, gardening, or engaging in physical activities such as weightlifting, yoga, swimming, or rock climbing. These activities can cause damage to your jewellery.

Don't Sleep with Jewellery On: It's recommended to remove all jewellery before going to bed. Sleeping with rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets can lead to bending, warping, or breakage.

Avoid Exposure to Hand Sanitisers: While maintaining clean hands is essential, avoid exposing your jewellery to hand sanitisers, detergents and chemical disinfectants. These substances contain harsh chemicals that can damage precious metals and plated jewellery, as may even cause irreversible harm to gemstones, especially pearls. Remove your jewellery before applying hand sanitiser or working with such substances, ensuring the sanitiser has fully dried before wearing your jewellery again.

Professional Cleaning & Maintenance: We advise taking your fine jewellery to a professional jeweller at least once a year for a thorough cleaning and a thorough inspection.

JEWELLERY CLEANING GUIDE

Gold and Platinum jewellery of any karat can be cleaned lightly using a soft cloth. To help maintain their brilliance, use a jewellery cleaner specifically designed for jewellery containing diamonds or gems.

You can also clean your jewellery with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Soak the jewellery in warm soapy water for about 10 minutes, then gently scrub the jewellery with the brush. Rinse it with cool water to remove any dirt and soap residue. Pat dry jewellery with a soft cloth that does not have a lot of loose threads, such as a soft cotton cloth. Try not to use traditional towels and the threads may get stuck on prongs and tug at them when you’re cleaning. Once dry, rub the jewellery with your Clou polishing cloth (made with special microfibre specifically for jewellery cleaning to prevent tugs and give a close polish).

MAINTAINING JEWELLERY SHAPE

To ensure your jewellery remains in impeccable condition, it is advisable to remove them, particularly rings, before engaging in manual or physically demanding activities. Tasks such as labor-intensive work or rigorous exercise can potentially distort or damage your jewellery. Bending the metal can compromise its shape or fracture it, resulting in loose prongs and the potential loss of gemstones.

KEEPING YOUR PRECIOUS GEMSTONES & DIAMONDS SHINING BRIGHT

Diamonds have the greatest hardness of any natural material, which means they resist scratches better than any other gem. However, they can still be vulnerable to physical impacts. Sapphires come in second to diamonds, while emeralds are much lower in the hardness scale. Therefore, it's important to handle jewellery with diamonds and/or precious gemstones with extra care.

To preserve their brilliance, you can use a jewellery cleaner specifically formulated for diamonds and gemstones. Alternatively, you can clean your jewellery by soaking it in warm soapy water for approximately 10 minutes and gently brushing it. Rinse with cool water to remove any residue and dirt, then pat dry with a soft cloth.Once dry, rub the jewellery with your Clou polishing cloth (made with special microfibre specifically for jewellery cleaning to prevent tugs and give a close polish).

Gemstones (diamonds and other precious stones) are delicate. To maintain their quality, avoid any harsh blows or extreme changes in temperature, as this could cause the stone to fracture. Sudden temperature changes may also change the colour of the gemstone.

To ensure the safety of your precious gemstone jewellery, store it in a soft cloth or a padded container, separate from other jewellery and sharp objects.

For maintaining brilliance, removing grease is crucial. Clean your precious gemstone jewellery using mild sudsy water and a tightly woven microfibre or soft chamois cloth. It's recommended to have your fine jewellery professionally cleaned and inspected at least once a year. Avoid using ultrasonic cleaners, abrasive liquids, chemical cleaners, or detergents.

By following these guidelines, you can keep your precious gemstone jewellery radiant and protected for years to come.

CARING FOR PRECIOUS METAL JEWELLERY: GOLD (18K & 14K) AND PLATINUM

To safeguard the beauty of your jewellery, it is important to keep it away from abrasive surfaces and sharp objects that can lead to scratches, dents, and scuffs. This includes other jewellery items that may inadvertently cause damage.

Gold: A cherished and naturally occurring precious metal, gold captivates with its colour, rarity, resistance to tarnish, and array of unique properties. Its attractive hue, combined with its scarcity, contributes to its desirability.

Platinum: A naturally occurring precious metal, platinum showcases an elegant "white" colour. Its rarity surpasses that of gold, and it possesses remarkable weight and hardness. With its exceptional hardness, platinum can be utilised in its nearly pure form, boasting an impressive 95% purity.

  •     Regular Professional Cleaning: We recommend professional cleaning at least once a year. Between professional cleanings, you can maintain your jewellery at home using a non-abrasive cleaner specifically designed for gold, platinum, and gemstones. Our provided soft polishing cloth can also help maintain their shine.
  •     Avoid Harsh Jewellery Cleaners: For home cleaning, use warm, mild soapy water and a soft micro fibre cloth or a gentle baby's toothbrush. Before using steam cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, or liquid jewellery cleaners, always check the product description to ensure they are safe for your specific metals and gemstones. Never use toothpaste, baking soda, or other abrasive materials, as they can damage your jewellery.
  •     Regular Inspections: Regularly examine your jewellery to ensure prongs and clasps are intact and functioning properly. Weak or worn-out prongs and clasps can lead to gemstone loss or damage. Over time, the surface of gold and platinum jewellery may develop tiny micro scratches from everyday wear, rendering the surface slightly dull. Occasional professional polishing, no more than once a year, can help restore their lustre.
  •     Wear with Care: Although gold and platinum are durable metals, treat them with care to avoid scratches, dents, or bending. Gold is a soft metal and needs extra care to ensure it maintains its shape and quality for years. Remove your jewellery during intense activities or manual labor, such as exercising, weightlifting, gardening, or handling abrasive materials like metals, sand, concrete, or glass.
  •     Avoid Abrasive Surfaces: Keep your jewellery away from rough and abrasive surfaces like sand, cement, glass, and other metal objects. These surfaces can cause scratches and damage to your precious pieces.
  •     Avoid All Chemicals, Bleach, and Chlorine: Protect your jewellery from exposure to household cleaners, hand sanitisers, disinfectants, bleach, and chlorine. These substances can discolour and damage both the metal and gemstones. Chlorine can weaken gold's structure over time, leading to breakage. Be cautious around pools and jacuzzis to keep your jewellery safe.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure your gold and platinum jewellery remains radiant and pristine for years to come.

CARING FOR PEARL JEWELLERY

To ensure your pearls endure for generations and achieve heirloom status, follow these essential maintenance tips:

  •   Protect your pearls from abrasive surfaces and sharp objects that could cause scratching, denting, or scuffing. Keep them separate from other jewellery to prevent any potential damage.
  •   Never use steam or ultrasonic jewellery cleaners on pearls, as these methods can harm the delicate outer layer. After each wear, gently wipe your pearls with a soft cloth to remove any oils or substances they may have encountered. Use a damp cloth sparingly for cleaning as needed. In case of visible stains, create a solution of lukewarm water and mild dish soap, dip a soft cleaning cloth into it, and wipe the pearls. Allow them to fully dry before storing.
  •   Take your pearl jewellery to a professional jeweller once a year for a comprehensive inspection and safe cleaning. They can ensure the integrity of your pearls and maintain their lustrous appearance.
  •   Apply makeup, hairspray, lotion, and perfume before putting on your pearls. These substances can potentially damage the soft surface of pearls. Store your pearls separately from other jewellery and abrasive objects in a soft fabric-lined compartment to prevent scratches.

Keep your pearls from drying out by wearing them regularly. Pearls thrive in a moist environment, so wearing them frequently helps maintain their natural lustre and prevents them from becoming dry and brittle.
